Steve's World

Well where do I start, I suppose from the begining. As this portfolio is going to focus on craetivity, I will try to give an insight of how I became a creative thinker. It all started when I was very young my first memories were of Lego, Star Wars plastic figures and playmobile. I used to play out elaborate games involving hours of play, acting out various heroic story lines.
By the time I got to Seconadry School one particular game would change me forever. One Summer half term in 1981 I first played a game called Dungeons and Dragons. I remember the afternoon perfectly, me and my friends gathered around a rulebook with our character sheets spead around us, exploring a dungeon filled with evil monsters, relying on a handfull of dice to defeat our tracherous foes. As with a lot of roleplayers the first adventure we played was Keep on the Borderlands.

Roleplaying Games

From there I wrote my own adventures, our characters became heroic legends after many years of playing and we learnt how to play different games. I cannot begin to tell you how role playing games sculptured me into the person I am today. During these games we leant problem solving, teamwork, acting skills and statistics, the list is endless. Roleplaying for me also encouraged me to read and soon I was an avid fan of Sci Fi and Fantasy literature. While all this was going on I also became obsessed with video games and films.Due to new technology both these medias were growing and becoming more advanced year after year. I first started playing on the Spectrum 48k, complete with rubber keys, then I switched to the BBC, Amiga and then envetually the first generation consols.

Final Fantasy 7

I suppose the other graet influence for me was a computer game called Final Fantasy 7, gamers of my age still talk about it in hushed tones, eyes full of awe, In my opinion is the finest game ever written. Just like roleplaying games Final Fantasy was a story where you played the hero. It might seem basic compared to the games today but for me it still remains a cult classic!

So thats it really, a healthy dose of roleplaying, computer games and films helped me learn how to unleash my imagination on a non suspecting public!
Today I use my craetivity to make films for Thomas Tallis School.
Oh and if you don't believe me about the importance of Role Playing Games check out this interview with Vin Diesel.
